I’ve blacked out my blog and will not be posting for the rest day in protest of SOPA and PIPA.
What are SOPA and PIPA? They are bills that are being passed through the US House of Representatives and Senate that threaten to censor and dramatically alter the internet we all know and love. Many of the websites you visit everyday (Tumblr, included) may be critically damaged or shut down should these bills come to pass.
Want to learn more about SOPA and PIPA? Click here, here, here, or here.
Are you a US citizen that wants to do something about it? Use this to look up your representative’s contact information, or this to get some pointers and be connected to one of your representatives. You can also sign one of these petitions.
See your Congress member’s stance on the bills here.
Not a US citizen? Read about a similar, lesser known bill, ACTA, that could affect your country. Click here to learn how to take action against ACTA. If you’d still like to help us protest SOPA and PIPA, send a message to the US State Department here.
Still have questions? Click here.
Let Congress know that we vote nay on censorship.
